VCU School of Education Shines at 2025 Research Colloquium

The VCU School of Education wrapped up its highly successful 2025 Research Colloquium on April 11, 2025, a vibrant celebration of research and innovation that brought together doctoral students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
The event featured an impressive display of 15 student posters, with standout winners including Dean M. for the People’s Choice Award with “Early Disability Identification Change Rates and Resource Allocation Since COVID-19: Informing Efforts to Move Forward in Virginia with Strategic Investments,” and a three-way Juried Award tie for Justus-Smith, C., Youngquest, G., and Wang, T.W. with “What drives education choice decisions? Looking across private and public school choosers,” Robinson, J. with “Gender Racialized Education: Parental Expectations and the Academic Trajectory of Black Males,” and Wang, T.W. with “What fosters students' Computational Thinking skills? An exploratory investigation using machine learning and multilevel modeling methods.”
Faculty delivered engaging lightning talks, while panels explored research partnerships and showcased the School’s Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs.
Hosted by division partners, VLDS data talks, and supported by Faculty Mentors, the RPDC Committee, Office of Research and Faculty Development, Office of Development, Alumni and Student Engagement, the Colloquium underscored VCU’s commitment to shaping the future of education through cutting-edge research and community collaboration.
